UE Red Warriors alumni show loyalty to alma mater

UE Red Warriors Men's Basketball alumni, now professional basketball superstars have expressed interest in joining the upcoming Grand UE Alumni Homecoming 2009.

When informed of the event, Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) Hall of Famers Sen. Robert “Sonny” Jaworski and Allan Caidic, international basketball coach Boycie Zamar, Mar Morelos, Bong Ravena, Paul Artadi, Ronald Tubid, and NiƱo “KG” Canaleta, all UE Red Warriors-alumni, expressed keenness to celebrate with fellow UE alumni in the “Balik-Tanaw kay Lualhati”-themed, with Hawaiian motif Grand UE Alumni Homecoming on Saturday, October 24, 5 p.m., at the Dalupan Lobby and Quadrangle, UE Manila Campus.

These UE Red Warriors-alumni displayed steadfastness and loyalty to their alma mater when they joined forces their fellow distinguished UE alumni, UE officials, faculty, employees and students, and avid fans to cheer on the UE Red Warriors team during the UAAP 72nd season men’s basketball Finals at the Big Dome, as UE faced ADMU. The UEAAI Homecoming Steering Committee, led by its Chairman Lt Col Renato Chan and UEAAI President UE Prof. Mercy Candelaria, and UEAAI Adviser, UE Marketing Dept. Executive Director and current UE Red Warriors Team Manager Jesus Tanchanco Sr., pleased with their enthusiasm, extended their personal invitation to the UE Red Warriors-alumni.

This year’s homecoming will give tribute to the UE alumni-jubilarians of classes 1949 (Diamond), 1954 (Emerald), 1959 (Golden), 1964 (Sapphire), 1969 (Ruby), 1974 (Coral), 1979 (Pearl), and 1984 (Silver). Homecoming souvenir items and fabulous prizes will be raffled off to add to the gaiety. “This is the first time former and current UE faculty will join the UE alumni homecoming, promising an event full of surprises”, said Lt Col Chan.

Originally slated on October 3 to culminate UE’s 63rd Foundation Anniversary, this homecoming was re-scheduled in deference to typhoon Ondoy’s victims. The homecoming organizers decided instead to assist in the UE relief operations for the Ondoy victims, targeting primarily members of the UE community, namely students, faculty members and other personnel living in Ondoy affected areas. According to UE Executive Director Tanchanco, the celebration took a backseat to give Ondoy victims the appropriate and immediate assistance they need.

The UEAAI officers invite all their fellow UE alumni, former students and faculty members to come and celebrate this momentous, once-a-year event. Invitation-tickets are now available at the UE Alumni Association, Inc. (UEAAI) Secretariat. To register, please call Josie or Aileen at tel. nos. 735-8562, 735-85-57, or 735-5471 locals 458, 459 & 310. For more info, log on at the UE web site, www.ue.edu.ph.
