P. O. Domingo Cup Golf Tournament at Wack Wack

P. O. Domingo Cup Golf Tournament at Wack Wack

The “P. O. Domingo Cup” will be held at the Wack-Wack Golf and Country Club on September 23, from 8 a.m. onwards. The golf tournament, named after the late P. O. (Panfilo) Domingo, Chairman of the Board and CEO of University of the East, UE Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center and the Allied Bank, as well as board member of several entities, was organized by his friends and business associates in banking, education, media and other institutions and golf buddies.
The golf tournament aims to raise funds for the “Dr. P. O. Domingo Scholarship Program” to enable intelligent but financially disadvantaged young Filipino students to pursue their college education and empower them to fulfill their dreams. This program will continue P.O.’s legacy of providing the youth with quality education, molding them as good leaders of society.
P. O., as his friends and business associates fondly called him, was distinguished in the banking community as the man behind the success of then government-owned Philippine National Bank (1972-1983). At PNB, he rose from the ranks to become its President. He efficiently steered PNB to become one of the largest, stable, profitable banks in Southeast Asia.
After retiring from PNB, he embarked into another field - the academe – to UE, his alma mater, as the Chairman of the Board and CEO and once, its President. Again, through his excellent financial acumen, he resuscitated the then financially-strapped UE to become one of the profitable, stable, robust learning institutions in the country nowadays, thus, reviving the grandeur and prestige that UE once reigned.
Chairman Domingo, both a sports backer and a player, was a low-key sportsman. Golf was his pastime. He is a regular in various putting greens nearby, playing with his closest golf buddies, friends and other business executives. Among his golf memberships are the Manila Golf and Country Club, Canlubang Golf and Country Club, Baguio Country Club, and the Country Club.
He was also an avid backer of the Philippine Tennis Association and regularly supported the Philippine Davis Cup Team. In the UE, he is the prime supporter of all its sport programs, especially of local and international competitions UE participates in.
He personally led all UE Pep Rallies wherein all UE athletes are gathered and presented to the UE community and are cheered by the community before competing.
